Last night we spoke to our Laois Wellness participants about our 14 tips to promote positive physical and mental health and wellbeing. One of the tips is to avoid smoking. In Ireland, smoking is the main cause of avoidable death. Almost 6,000 people die in Ireland each year from the effects of smoking and thousands of others suffer from smoking-related diseases. The harsh reality is that:
1 in 2 smokers will die from a tobacco-related disease.
Smoking takes 10 to 15 quality years off your life.
Every cigarette you smoke takes 5 and a half minutes off your life .
Support is available if you want to stop smoking. You can get free support from the Quit Programme. More information is available here: https://www2.hse.ie/quit-smoking/. Please share with anyone who may benefit.
Huge thanks to Laois Sports Partnership, Laois Connects 2021 and the HSE for funding this 'Laois Wellness' programme.
